Silbury Hill

They say it holds his raven remains

but the truth is

he climbed to the top and flew

after spotting a star’s embers.

King Sil scattered his dreams

to the sky

while Bealtaine and Samhaine

were kept on the mound.

In time, a moat

washed the feet of the hill,

gave it a watery sixth sense.

No one is sure if

layers grew from defence or welcome

but stature forged history:

chalk for the makers of marks,

clay for the sculptors of bodies,

moss for the builders of nests.

And the birds still perch there

in memory of him

and those who raised this hill with their souls.
